Tonight with your 5 to 8 year old
The prompt
“When our family has a problem to solve, what do you think we're actually good at doing together?”
What to listen for
If they mention talking it out, listening, or everyone helping, they're showing they feel like a real part of a team that works things out together, not just someone problems happen to.
If they mention a specific person always fixing things, gently notice whether they feel like they get a voice too, it might be worth asking directly if they feel heard when family problems come up.
If they say "I don't know," bring up a specific recent problem the family solved together to jog it loose.
What this tells you
This shows how much they feel like a valued teammate versus a bystander when family challenges come up.
