The prompt

“Was there something boring or annoying you finished today anyway? How'd you get through it?”

What to listen for

If they describe pushing through with a strategy (singing, racing themselves, thinking about the reward after), they're building real persistence, the ability to do hard, unglamorous things, which matters far beyond today.

If they say a grown-up had to push them through it, that's honest and okay, you can gently ask what would help them get through it on their own next time.

If they can't think of anything they finished, that's fine, ask about tomorrow instead, framing persistence as something to look forward to rather than something missed.

What this tells you

This shows how their sense of "I can stick with hard, boring things" is developing, which matters far more than raw talent later on.
