“What's a small moment where you were brave, even if it wasn't a big deal to anyone else?”

What to listen for

A specific, small example (raising a hand, trying new food, going somewhere dark alone) shows they're building an inner sense of courage that doesn't need an audience, that's real, durable bravery.

If they downplay it even while describing it proudly, gently insist it counts, kids this age often think bravery only means big, dramatic things, and it helps to correct that early.

If they say "I wasn't brave today," you can offer a moment you noticed, sometimes they don't recognize their own courage until it's named for them.
