Tonight with your 5 to 8 year old
The prompt
“Was there ever a time you had to share credit for something you made with someone else? How did that feel?”
What to listen for
If they describe feeling okay or even proud to share credit, they're developing real generosity and a secure sense of their own worth that doesn't need to be the only one recognized.
If they describe it feeling unfair or upsetting, that's honest and worth exploring gently, ask what would have made it feel more fair, which tells you a lot about what recognition means to them.
If they haven't experienced this yet, you can offer a hypothetical (like a group art project) to see their instinct before it actually happens.
What this tells you
This shows how secure they feel in their own worth, even when they have to share the spotlight with someone else.
