Tonight with your 5 to 8 year old
The prompt
“Was there a time practicing something actually paid off for you?”
What to listen for
A proud story about improvement shows they're connecting effort to results, which is huge for their long-term confidence. Ask how it felt the moment they noticed they'd gotten better.
If they can't think of one, mention something you've watched them practice and ask if they've noticed any change yet.
If they say practicing never helps, gently share a time in your own life when it eventually did.
What this tells you
This shows you whether they're starting to believe effort actually leads somewhere, which shapes how they'll tackle hard things later.
