Tonight with your 5 to 8 year old
The prompt
“If you could try any job for just one day, what would you want to try?”
What to listen for
The job they choose often reflects a value or interest they already carry, helping, building, performing, exploring. Ask what part of that job excites them most.
If they pick something silly or impossible (dragon trainer), that's a wonderful sign of imagination, not something to correct toward 'real' jobs.
If they're stuck, ask what they'd want to be really good at if practice wasn't a problem.
What this tells you
This shows you what kind of role, in the biggest sense, currently excites their imagination about who they could become.
