Tonight with your 5 to 8 year old
The prompt
“Did anyone do something small and kind for you today, even if it seemed tiny?”
What to listen for
If they easily recall a moment, they're tuned in to being cared for, which helps them feel like they matter and belong. Ask how it made them feel in their body, warm, happy, surprised.
If they can't think of anything, gently mention something you noticed happen for them today. It helps to build the habit of noticing kindness rather than assuming it went unnoticed.
Either way, this is a nice moment to ask if they did something kind for someone else too.
What this tells you
Noticing kindness aimed at them tells you whether they're feeling looked after and valued day to day.
