What to listen for

If they can describe the moment and what pushed them through, they're building real belief in their own grit, which will matter far beyond whatever the task was.

If they say they always give up or can't think of an example, gently offer one you witnessed, sometimes kids don't recognize their own persistence until someone else names it for them.

If they say "I don't know," that's fine, try asking about something smaller, like a puzzle or a hard level in a game.

What this tells you
