Tonight with your 5 to 8 year old
The prompt
“If our family had a game night, what job would you want to have?”
What to listen for
If they pick a role with responsibility, like scorekeeper or rule-explainer, they're showing they want to be seen as capable and trusted with something that matters, not just a player among many.
If they pick something more playful, like being the surprise-twist-adder, that shows they want their creativity and fun to be part of what the family remembers.
If they say "I don't know," offer a couple options, "snack boss or rule keeper?", and see which one lights them up.
What this tells you
The job they choose at game night shows whether they currently crave being trusted with responsibility or being celebrated for their fun ideas.
