What to listen for

If they share it readily, it means their own sense of accomplishment matters to them regardless of an audience, a healthy, internal kind of pride that will serve them well.

If they seem surprised you'd ask about something nobody saw, that's a great moment to underline that pride doesn't need witnesses to count, sometimes kids assume achievements only matter if someone clapped.

A blank look might mean they're used to measuring pride only through other people's reactions, worth revisiting this question again in a few weeks to see if it gets easier to answer.
