What to listen for

A well-reasoned argument, even if you don't agree with the conclusion, shows they're learning to advocate for themselves respectfully, that skill matters more than winning this particular debate.

If their case is really about wanting more connection at night, like texting a friend or watching something together, listen for that underneath the ask.

If they just say "it's not fair" without more, invite them to build the actual argument, asking them to make their case teaches negotiation better than a flat no or yes.
