What to listen for

A clear, confident answer shows they're comfortable holding their own opinion even against the crowd, that's real independence of thought forming, and it deserves respect even if you disagree.

If they seem nervous sharing it, reassure them this is a completely safe space for it, kids sometimes test controversial-feeling opinions with parents before anyone else.

If they say they don't have any opinions like that, gently offer a lighthearted example of your own to show that disagreeing with the crowd is normal and okay.
