What to listen for

A specific, personal answer shows they're building internal pride that doesn't depend on outside praise, that's a strong, healthy foundation for confidence.

If their example is something small and everyday, that's actually a great sign, it means they don't need big achievements to feel good about themselves.

If they can only think of things other people praised them for, gently ask what they're proud of that nobody else even saw, it helps build that inner sense of pride.
