Tonight with your 9 to 12 year old
The prompt
“What's something that makes you feel really proud of yourself, even if no one else notices?”
What to listen for
A specific, personal answer shows they're building internal pride that doesn't depend on outside praise, that's a strong, healthy foundation for confidence.
If their example is something small and everyday, that's actually a great sign, it means they don't need big achievements to feel good about themselves.
If they can only think of things other people praised them for, gently ask what they're proud of that nobody else even saw, it helps build that inner sense of pride.
What this tells you
This shows whether their sense of pride comes from within or still depends heavily on outside approval.
