Listen for what they name, a specific activity, a particular person, a certain feeling of slowing down, because that's a direct line to what currently makes them feel safe and comforted. If the answer involves you or another family member being around, that's a strong, simple signal that your presence itself is part of what makes hard or dull moments feel okay.

If they say rainy days are always sad or boring to them, don't rush to fix it, ask what would make it better, which turns a flat statement into a small wish list you can actually use.

A silly or unexpected answer (like a specific snack or smell) is just as meaningful as a deep one, comfort is often built from small, concrete things.
