“What's your favorite way to spend time completely alone?”

What to listen for

If they describe something they genuinely look forward to, that's a healthy sign, they're learning that their own company can be enjoyable, not just something to escape through screens.

Notice whether their answer is about resting (reading, daydreaming) or creating (drawing, building), both are fine, but it tells you what kind of alone time actually refuels them.

If they say they never want to be alone, that's worth noting gently, some kids need more help learning that solitude can feel good, not lonely.
