“What's something you can do easily now that used to feel really hard?”

What to listen for

If they answer fast and proud, they've noticed their own growth, that's them building real confidence they can point back to on harder days.

If they need a minute to think of something, they may not be used to pausing to notice their own progress, which is worth practicing together more often. Help them out with an example you've noticed if they get stuck.

If they downplay it ('that was never really hard'), they might be uncomfortable taking credit for their own effort, a small nudge that praise still feels a little unfamiliar to accept.
