What to listen for

If they describe something they do alone happily, they've found a real source of self-soothing and independence that doesn't need anyone else's input, that's healthy.

If everything they mention involves other people, that's not a problem, but it's useful to know they may need more encouragement building comfort with their own company too.

If they say they're just bored and don't know, that's a normal answer for this age, no need to read anything deep into it.
