Tonight with your 13 to 17 year old
The prompt
“What's something you catch yourself doing lately that you definitely picked up from your sibling?”
What to listen for
A fond or funny answer shows they feel connected to their sibling in a way that adds to who they are, not just competes with it, that sense of belonging to each other matters even when they bicker daily.
If they mention a habit with a little eye-roll, that's usually affection wearing a disguise, it doesn't mean the relationship is strained, just normal teenage understatement.
A flat "nothing" might mean they haven't thought about it, or that comparing themselves to a sibling feels touchy right now, either way, no need to press.
What this tells you
What they notice inheriting from a sibling shows how much they feel shaped by belonging to this particular family, not just living alongside it.
