What to listen for

A quick, confident answer shows they have a clear, playful sense of their own identity that they can express in a fun shorthand, that ease with self-description is a good sign.

If they overthink it or give several options, that's fine too, it might mean their sense of self is still evolving, which is exactly what's supposed to happen at this age.

Whatever they pick, resist analyzing it too hard out loud, just enjoy the glimpse into how they see themselves.
