Tonight with your 13 to 17 year old
The prompt
“Do you notice yourself being kind of a different person depending on who you're with?”
What to listen for
If they describe shifting energy or tone with different groups, that's normal and healthy social flexibility, they need to know that's not fake, it's just adapting, and most people do it.
If they express discomfort about which version feels most "real," take that seriously without rushing to reassure, they need space to sort out which parts feel authentic and which feel like performance.
If they say they're pretty much the same everywhere, that consistency is worth naming as its own kind of confidence.
What this tells you
How their identity shifts with company shows you which relationships let them feel most fully like themselves.
