Tonight with your 13 to 17 year old
The prompt
“Is there someone you miss more than you usually let on?”
What to listen for
If they name someone, it means they trust you enough to show a softer, more vulnerable side instead of the usual composed front, treat that gently and without a dozen follow-up questions.
If their voice changes or they get quiet telling you, that emotion is the real answer, more than any specific words, just stay present with it.
If they say "no one really," that's fine to leave alone; missing someone isn't always something they're ready to name out loud yet.
What this tells you
This shows you an attachment that matters to them more than their everyday behavior might suggest.
