Tonight with your 5 to 8 year old
The prompt
“Is there a rule in our house that feels unfair to you? What makes it feel that way?”
What to listen for
A clear, thought-out answer shows they're developing their own sense of fairness, which is healthy even if you don't change the rule. Thank them for being honest instead of getting defensive.
If they can't name one, that might mean the rules currently feel reasonable to them, which is good to know.
If the same rule comes up again and again, it might be worth a real conversation about adjusting it together.
What this tells you
This shows you where they feel boundaries are working for them and where they feel unheard about something that matters.
