The prompt

“If a friend told you their biggest secret, how would you know it was safe with you, and how do you know when you can trust someone else with yours?”

What to listen for

If they talk about keeping promises, not telling, or being careful with someone's feelings, they're already sensing what makes a bond solid, that they can count on people and be counted on. That's them working out how to feel secure with others.

If they focus on a specific friend or a time trust broke (someone told their secret), listen for whether they still feel a little unsure, they may need reassurance that trust can be rebuilt, and that one slip doesn't ruin everything.

If they say "I don't know," ask about a cartoon or book character instead, trust is abstract at this age, and a story gives them a way in without pressure.
