Tonight with your 5 to 8 year old
The prompt
“If you had your dream clubhouse, what would the rules be for getting in and being a member?”
What to listen for
If the rules are about being kind or nice to get in, they're showing they value character over anything else when it comes to who belongs, which is a lovely, healthy value to notice out loud.
If the rules are more about secret passwords or special skills, that's playful and normal too, it shows they enjoy feeling like part of something exclusive and special, which is a common, harmless way to feel important.
If they say "I don't know," ask who they'd want as the first member to get the rules flowing.
What this tells you
The rules they invent show what they think makes someone worth including and trusting.
