Tonight with your 5 to 8 year old
The prompt
“What's one way you've gotten braver this year, even a little bit?”
What to listen for
If they name something concrete, like sleeping with the light off or trying a new food, that clear memory shows they can see their own growth, which builds real confidence.
If they struggle to name something, offer one you noticed, sometimes kids need to be shown their own bravery before they can see it themselves.
If they say they haven't gotten braver, gently remind them of something small you witnessed, growth is often invisible to the person doing the growing.
What this tells you
Being able to name their own bravery shows they're starting to trust their own ability to handle hard things.
