Tonight with your 5 to 8 year old
The prompt
“What's a little habit you have that feels like it's just so 'you'?”
What to listen for
If they name something specific and smile about it, like humming while they draw, that comfort with their own quirks shows healthy, growing self-acceptance.
If they seem unsure whether the habit is good or embarrassing, reassure them it's just part of what makes them them, no judgment needed.
If they can't think of one, offer a habit you've noticed lovingly, sometimes kids need to be shown their own quirks before they can name them.
What this tells you
How comfortably they name their own quirks shows how much they've come to accept themselves exactly as they are.
