What to listen for

If they can name what helped, like a hug, quiet time, or you nearby, that shows they're building real awareness of what calms them, which is a lifelong skill.

If they struggle to name what helped, gently offer a few things you've seen work, like deep breaths or a favorite blanket, to build their own toolkit together.

If they say nothing helps, take that seriously and sit with it, sometimes just being there quietly is the actual answer, not a fix.
