Tonight with your 5 to 8 year old
The prompt
“Was there a time being kind to someone felt harder than just being right?”
What to listen for
If they can describe choosing kindness even when they wanted to prove a point, that's a real sign of a growing conscience, choosing connection over winning.
If they say they usually choose being right, that's honest and useful, it's a great chance to talk through one recent example together without making them feel bad about it.
If they say "I don't know," offer a hypothetical, like "what if a friend got an answer wrong in a game, would you correct them or let it go?"
What this tells you
Choosing kindness over being right shows how much they're learning that relationships matter more than winning every moment.
