Tonight with your 5 to 8 year old
The prompt
“What do you do when someone doesn't want to play the game you really want to play?”
What to listen for
If they describe compromising or finding a mix of both games, they're showing real skill at holding onto their own wants while still caring about someone else's.
If they say they just get upset or give up on playing altogether, that's a good sign they might need a little coaching on offering alternatives instead of it feeling all-or-nothing.
If they say "I don't know," ask about a recent time this actually happened and walk through it together.
What this tells you
How they handle a mismatched game choice shows how well they can hold onto their own wants while still staying connected to a friend.
