What to listen for

If they can name it clearly, they have real self-awareness and want to be seen accurately, not just liked, that's a healthy, mature instinct.

If they seem frustrated describing it, they may need you to be the one place where they're seen correctly, even if the rest of the world gets it wrong sometimes.

If they say no one gets them wrong, that's a good sign they feel generally well understood by the people around them.
