Tonight with your 9 to 12 year old
The prompt
“What's a fear you've mostly gotten over?”
What to listen for
If they can name one and describe the shift, they're building a real internal story of themselves as someone who grows and overcomes things, that's powerful self-belief forming.
If they struggle to think of one, gently remind them of something you've noticed change, sometimes they need it reflected back before they see it themselves.
If they say they're still scared of everything they used to be, take that seriously and softly, it might be worth revisiting that specific fear together.
What this tells you
This tells you how much proof they're collecting that they can actually outgrow the things that used to scare them.
