Tonight with your 9 to 12 year old
The prompt
“What's something that makes you feel genuinely brave?”
What to listen for
A specific answer, whether it's a big moment or a small daily one, shows they're building real self-trust around facing hard things.
If they mention speaking up or trying something new in front of others, that shows courage tied to being seen, worth naming and praising directly.
If they say nothing makes them feel brave, ask instead about a time they did something even though they were scared, bravery is often easier to spot in hindsight than to name on the spot.
What this tells you
This shows what kind of challenges currently build their confidence versus which ones still feel too big.
