What to listen for

If they can point to a real change, they're noticing their own growth, which builds a strong, earned kind of confidence rather than confidence that depends on being told they're good.

If they can't think of anything, gently offer an example you've noticed, kids this age often don't track their own progress unless someone reflects it back to them.

If they mention something surprising, like being braver about speaking up rather than something physical, follow that, it often points to where they're growing the most right now.
