What to listen for

If they open up with something real, however small, that's a sign of real trust, respond with calm curiosity, not a rush to fix or minimize it, so they keep bringing you these moments.

If they hesitate or say "I can't say it," reassure them there's no wrong feeling and you're not going anywhere, sometimes just naming that it's okay to not have words yet is enough for tonight.

If they say "nothing," let it rest lightly, not every day holds an unspoken feeling, and asking regularly matters more than getting an answer every single time.
