Tonight with your 5 to 8 year old
The prompt
“If you had one superpower just for tomorrow afternoon, which one would you pick?”
What to listen for
If they pick something helpful, like flying to save someone or being invisible to avoid trouble, they're showing you what kind of hero they picture themselves as, protector, escaper, prankster, helper.
If they pick something purely fun, like turning everything into candy, that's them just wanting a burst of joy and control over their world for a moment, which is healthy and light.
If they can't decide, offer two choices to react to, "flying or invisible?", narrowing options often frees up their imagination.
What this tells you
The kind of superpower they choose hints at whether they're currently craving more freedom, more safety, or more fun in their everyday life.
