What to listen for

If they describe it in vivid detail, colors, objects, a feeling in the space, that's their inner world of identity and independence taking shape, and they need genuine interest, not just a quick nod.

If they describe it as very different from their room now, ask what specifically they'd want to change, since that often reveals what feels missing or restricted currently.

If they say "I don't know," ask what's one thing in their current room they'd want to keep forever.
