What to listen for

If they can point to a clear payoff, they're starting to genuinely believe that waiting and effort are worth it, not just something adults say, that's real internal motivation forming.

If they can't think of an example, gently offer one you remember about them, sometimes kids don't connect their own patience to the good outcome that followed.

If they say patience never pays off for them, take that seriously rather than arguing, it might mean they need more visible, near-term wins to rebuild that belief.
